Ephesus to Install LED Lighting Systems at 12 Indoor Facilities at Cornell’s Ithaca, NY Campus

Cornell University announced today that Ephesus Lighting, the leader in installing high-output LED lighting at sports and entertainment venues, has been selected to install its system at 12 indoor facilities, including 10 sports venues, at the school’s Ithaca, NY campus.

The announcement was made by W.S. (Lanny) Joyce P.E., Director of Utilities and Energy Management and Campus Energy Manager Mark Howe P.E., of Cornell University and Mike Lorenz, President of Ephesus Lighting.

The Cornell sports facilities converting to LED lighting include: Friedman Wrestling Center, one of two stand-alone facilities devoted to collegiate wrestling in the nation; James Lynah Rink, home ice of the NCAA Division 1 men’s and women’s hockey teams; Teagle Hall, including the Teagle Pool and Teagle Gym; the Grumman Squash facility; Barton Hall, site of indoor track & field; Helen Newman Hall including the Helen Newman Pool and Helen Newman Gym; Helen Newman Arena; and the Oxley Equestrian Center. The two non-sports venues also switching to LED are the Bartel Multipurpose Room and Stocking Hall at the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences.

The project, commencing throughout the 2014-15 academic year, is among the largest LED sports facility lighting installation on any college campus. Just 612 Ephesus LED fixtures will be installed to replace the 750+ metal halide fixtures currently in use. In addition to improving light quality, the conversion to the maintenance-free system is expected to reduce energy consumption by more than 70%.

“Cornell University has always been home to the brightest minds so it is not a surprise that they would understand the benefit of LED lighting,” explained Mr. Lorenz. “The improved lighting and versatility of the system coupled with the energy efficiency makes it the smart decision for the entire Cornell community.”

Since lighting the first sports arena with LED in North America in 2012, Ephesus Lighting luminaires have been operational for over 70,000 hours in more than 30 indoor and outdoor sports and entertainment venues all across North America including: University of Phoenix Stadium, home field of the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals and the 2015 Super Bowl; the Canadian Tire Centre, home of the NHL’s Ottawa Senators, Duke University’s Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium and more.
