Energy Efficiency Home Improvement Key

According to the Energy Saving Trust homeowners across the UK should take note that an energy efficient home could be the way to a more financially stable future.

The news comes after British Gas admitted that it may need to increase the cost of gas after its wholesale price rose by 70 per cent in the last year. This has a knock-on effect on electrical costs, as 40 per cent of power stations across the UK are run on gas.

Mark Clare, managing director at British Gas, spoke of the soaring costs: "I don't think the supply industry has the capacity to absorb very much of these increases."

This means that in 2006 energy bills could rise by up to a quarter compared to last year, leaving Britons to pay an average £1,045 annually. However, making a home more energy efficient by installing features such as double-glazing, could save homeowners a bundle on heating costs.
