YIT Starts Construction of New Office Building in Lahti, Finland

YIT has started the construction of an eight-storey office building in Lahti in June. The leasable area of the office building named BW Tower is over 7,500 square metres, and it will be completed in autumn 2015.

Technical and Environmental Services of the City of Lahti will be the main tenant of the property with a long rental agreement, and so far rental agreements cover approximately 85% of the office premises in total.

BW Tower is being built in the immediate vicinity of Lahti railway station, in connection with Lahti bus and freight terminal. In addition to the office premises, YIT will build Finland’s second robot parking facility for some 200 cars next to the BW Tower for office building and Lahti bus and freight terminal connection parking. Robot parking is an automated parking system where cars are stored on compact modular shelves. The benefit of robot parking is that it needs about 50% less space and has lower maintenance and energy costs compared to conventional solutions. The parking is done in a user-friendly parking area.

LEED certification, an internationally recognized certificate of a building’s environmental responsibility, efficiency and healthy working environment, will be applied for the building.

“The combination of the modern and versatile facilities of BW Tower and excellent transport connections have ensured that the property is in high demand among tenants. We are proud to be developing Lahti city centre and contributing to locating new workplaces in connection with the new travel centre,” says Jukka Pohjola, YIT’s regional director in Southeastern Finland.
