From Portland, Oregon comes a national green building breakthrough: the engineering of a major green building — the Oregon Health & Science University’s River Campus Project — on a conventional budget. In addition to breaking the cost barrier, which is an achievement that can revolutionize the design of large buildings, this project also expects to receive the USA’s highest green building certification: LEED Platinum.
As The Oregonian, the state's largest daily, reported on its business front page (Dec. 2nd), the building's projected energy savings of more than 60% is "off the charts."
In support of spreading the news about this green building accomplishment, the lead consulting engineers on the project at Interface Engineering are making two important resources available to all media outlets (links available below to these resources):
- A new chart gives the national perspective, showing the leading environmentally innovative buildings in the U.S. and the national significance of the Oregon Health & Science University's Center for Health and Healing.
- Interface Engineering has published a complimentary 48-page guide to the project, "Engineering a Sustainable World," that shares the secrets of its green engineering and design in an effort to spur further advances in the rapidly growing green building sector. It is quickly becoming a valued resource by reporters and construction industry professionals. In less than a month since publication, nearly 2000 people have requested a copy of this unique publication.
To find out more about the project and its innovative green building features and strategies- including the design of solar shades for energy savings in NW summers; the use of 'free' natural resources to light, heat, cool and ventilate the building; the harvesting of rainwater; and the construction of a complex biotech building to be a place of comfort, health and productivity.
