Baker International Awarded Structural Rehabilitation Contract for Pulaski Skyway Bridge Project

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has awarded Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker International, LLC, a two-year, $8.0 million dollar contract to provide deck replacement and structural rehabilitation services of two ramp structures for the historic, 80-year old Pulaski Skyway Bridge connecting Newark and Jersey City, N.J.

The Pulaski Skyway, a historic bridge of national importance, is a key component of the metropolitan transportation network and acts as a major traffic corridor between New Jersey and New York. The Skyway crosses over both the Hackensack and Passaic rivers in New Jersey. The goal of the Pulaski Skyway Rehabilitation Project is to rehabilitate the structure and address the existing structural deficiencies, make safety improvements, and achieve a life expectancy of at least 75 years before another major rehabilitation is necessary.

“It is very exciting to be involved in this major historic bridge that has regional and national significance,” said Baker’s Mike Sidani, P.E., vice president and project manager. “The finished project will bring long-term positive outcomes to the connecting New York and New Jersey metropolitan communities. It will be an honor to serve this long-standing and valued client in delivering one of their most significant capital improvement projects.”

Baker’s services include structural rehabilitation design of two ramp structures, as well as geotechnical, civil, traffic and electrical designs in support of the entire project. Additionally, Baker will provide overall coordination of the Public Outreach Program, as well as document management for both the design and public outreach components for the entire project.
