Baseball Heaven Long Island (BBH), one of the country’s premier baseball and softball complexes, is proud to announce the completion of their brand new, state-of-the-art indoor training facility, Steel Sports Academy. BBH, a portfolio company of Steel Sports Inc., started construction of Steel Sports Academy in February 2013 and has invested over $1.9 million to bring the surrounding baseball and softball community a premium indoor training facility located on Baseball Heaven’s 27-acre facility in Yaphank, NY.
The Steel Sports Academy is a 12,000 square foot, climate controlled facility that features a fully turfed training area, multiple pitching mounds, batting tunnels, speed and agility training, private lessons, indoor camps and clinics and much more. The column-free facility has 28-foot high ceilings and houses a new revamped pro shop. Steel Sports Academy will offer private lessons, team training, facility rentals, open winter workouts, holiday camps and clinics, a little sluggers program, as well as rental availability for custom events and birthday parties. The indoor facility gives athletes access to high quality training all year round regardless of weather conditions.
“Baseball Heaven continues to strive towards becoming the top destination for baseball and softball players and the new Steel Sports Academy will enable us to provide a place for events and training throughout the year,” said Frank Zitaglio, general manager of BBH. “We are committed to the Long Island region and we believe the new facility will serve to reinforce Baseball Heaven as a local attraction as well as a destination sports complex.”
BBH has teamed with former Major League Baseball Player Frank Catalanotto, who will be Steel Sports Academy’s year-round head instructor. Catalanotto is a veteran player with fourteen years of MLB experience and this past year was the coach for the Italian National Team. In addition to providing individual and group instruction, Catalanotto will lead a comprehensive staff of current high school and college coaches who will be available to help with all aspects of the game.
“I’ve really enjoyed being part of Baseball Heaven and I am excited to lead the effort at the new facility in working with players of all ages as they continue to develop their skills,” said Catalanotto, a native of Long Island. “We have been working hard at developing a variety of sports instruction and development programs and we’re eager to start implementing these programs at Steel Sports Academy.”
The new building was part of an overall upgrade at BBH this past year, including the construction of two new concession stands, a revamped café, live online video streaming of all games, and upgraded parking, turf and lighting on the fields.
BBH, is a portfolio company of Steel Sports Inc., a subsidiary of Steel Excel Inc. (SXCL: OTC)
