RES Canada to Build Two 10MW Solar PV Facilities for SunEdison

Renewable Energy Systems Canada Inc. (RES Canada), a leader in the construction of solar and wind energy projects in Canada, is pleased to announce that it will be constructing two 10 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic facilities for SunEdison.

RES Canada will serve as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the Newboro I and Newboro IV projects, which are located in Ontario and are intended to qualify for the province's feed-in-tariff (FIT) program.

Newboro I and IV are scheduled for completion in 2014 and will use the SunEdison Silvantis 320 watt modules and Unirac fixed-tilt racks. The projects are located in Eastern Ontario between the towns of Westport and Newboro, and together will provide enough clean, renewable energy to power approximately 4,000 average homes in the province. Each project will have more than 250 skilled workers on site at the peak of construction activity.

"RES Canada is proud to be constructing these projects for SunEdison," said Peter Clibbon, Vice President of Development for RES Canada. "Ontario's commitment to renewable energy has already generated significant economic and job creation benefits, and these projects will continue that trend."

Newboro I and IV are the fourth and fifth projects RES Canada has constructed for SunEdison, in addition to the 30MW Webberville Solar facility in Texas, and the SunE Rutley and Norfolk solar projects in Ontario, which are each 10MW. The electricity from Newboro I and IV will be sold under a 20-year power purchase agreement with the Ontario Power Authority.

"We are pleased to have RES Canada constructing these two projects," said Michael Dilworth, SunEdison's General Manager and Vice President, Canada. "Their in-house engineering resources and the ability of their procurement team to source materials locally are benefits we really appreciate. It is partnerships like these that help us grow our business in a profitable way."

The addition of the Newboro I and IV projects brings RES Canada's Ontario solar FIT construction portfolio to 70MW. The company also has a wind construction portfolio of more than 670MW in Canada, which includes the 270MW South Kent Wind project, Ontario's largest wind farm. The company recently completed construction of the Montana-Alberta Tie-Line (MATL) transmission line, a 345km high-voltage power line between Lethbridge, AB and Great Falls, MT.
