Mortenson Construction today announced it has received the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) 2013 Region V Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Excellence for Construction. Mortenson was recognized as the overall winner for Region V, which includes large business contractors within the states of Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
The Dwight D. Eisenhower Award, presented to one company in each of the SBA's 10 regions, is the premier small business recognition award from the SBA. It recognizes large prime contractors that have excelled in their utilization of small, disadvantaged, and women-owned businesses as suppliers and subcontractors. According to the SBA, more than half of Americans who work either own or work for a small business.
The SBA recognized Mortenson's "hard work, innovative ideas, and dedication to the community" in selecting the company for the prestigious award. Mortenson's Federal Contracting Group currently awards more than 75 percent of its total subcontracted dollars to small, women-owned, and disadvantaged businesses.
