Michael Baker Engineering, Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation, has been awarded a subcontract by HDR for the design of a portion of the Tappan Zee Bridge replacement project in Rockland/ Westchester Counties, New York. HDR is the lead designer for the design-builder, Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC, a joint venture of Fluor, American Bridge, Granite and Traylor Brothers.
The $2.0 million, eight-month subcontract involves the design of two curved three-span bridge units for the landmark structure. These units are two of twenty approach units that make up the total replacement for the Tappan Zee Bridge. Baker will be providing structural design for the substructure and superstructure for the two units.
