Concrete’s Role in Building America Profiled in Pictures

As American industry boomed throughout the 1900s, so did the use of concrete. Portland Cement Association’s latest CD, Shades of Gray, Sands of Time illustrates how the equipment used in concrete construction and the related processes evolved during the past century.

More than 900 black and white photographs show the use of concrete in buildings, bridges, highways and streets. The images demonstrate that while technology has improved many construction methods, several remain true to the original techniques. Additionally, the photos provide illustrations of a vast assortment of machinery, including horse-drawn and hand-operated equipment.

The CD is a valuable resource of anyone preparing papers or PowerPoint presentations on the industry. All images are presented in high-resolution quality.
