The project comprises 101,000 square meters, with the largest portion, nearly 60,000 square meters, being a new campus for the University College Copenhagen, UCC, which will concentrate all of its operations in Carlsberg Byen. When completed, more than 10,000 students and 800 employees will work in the area.
In addition to the educational premises, the project comprises 6,500 square meters of retail space, 3,500 square meters of office space, 15,000 square meters of residential space and nearly 20,000 square meters of basement space.
Carlsberg Byen will be built on Carlsberg’s former brewery area in western Copenhagen. Plans call for a total of 567,000 square meters to be built in the area in the coming 15 to 20 years.
“I am delighted that we will be involved in building and developing the first phase of the Carlsberg Byen area,” says Klaus Kaae, President of NCC Construction Danmark A/S.
NCC has longstanding experience of developing former brewery areas in Copenhagen. From the start in 1998, NCC has been involved and developed Tuborg’s former production area in Hellerup into a vibrant area comprising residences, offices and stores.
“The first phase of the development of Carlsberg Byen will essentially realize our vision of creating a vibrant city district with a mix of stores, housing, offices and cultural operations, which will also benefit residents and investors in 25 years’ time,” says Lars Holten, president of the development company, Carlsberg Byen.
Project planning of Carlsberg Byen has already commenced and construction is scheduled to start in summer 2013. The first phase of the project is scheduled for completion at mid-2016 and the entire project will be delivered in early 2017.
The Carlsberg Byen order will be registered in the NCC Construction Denmark business area during the first quarter of 2013.
