Tower Companies' Two Buildings Receive BOMA 360 Performance Designation

The Tower Companies announced today that the BOMA International 360 Performance Program Council has designated The Tower Building at Tower Oaks, and 1707 L Street in Washington, DC, BOMA 360 Performance Buildings, among an elite group of properties that have demonstrated their buildings are managed to the highest standards of excellence.

"We are truly excited to receive this BOMA designation for 1707 L Street and The Tower Building, a building designed with the most eco-sophisticated innovations when built and managed to compete alongside top energy efficient buildings of today," stated Tower Companies partner, Jeffrey S. Abramson.

The Tower Building, which is owned and managed by The Tower Companies, was the Washington area's first green building when completed in 2001, before the release of U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards for commercial projects. In 2003 the ten-story, 276,000 SF Tower Building, won the MD/DC NAIOP Award of Excellence and in 2002, the TOBY Award for Best Green Building. It is one of the most architecturally stunning buildings in the Nation's Capital region with its landmark elliptical shape, designed by Kishimoto Gordon Delaya, reminiscent of an intergalactic ship, and visible off the I-270 corridor, on a 12-acre site at Tower Oaks and Wootton Parkway in Rockville. The elliptical design offers occupants' 180-degree views and abundance of natural light due to the 100% perimeter windows. The building is certified USGBC LEED® Silver under Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance and achieved US Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR® rating in 2009 and 2010. In 2011, The Tower Companies was named an ENERGY STAR Leader because the building received a score of 91, which means it is within the top 10% of energy efficient buildings in the US according to the EPA Portfolio Manager.

1707 L Street is a USGBC LEED Silver EB certified office building with a completely renovated Lobby and reception area, garage, access to a Fitness Center at 1828 L Street and "plug-in" Smartsuites® within steps of the Farragut North Red Line Metro Station, and in the center of downtown Washington, DC. Tower's Smartsuites® are green, energy efficient and sustainable "plug-in" executive offices designed for organizations focused on integrating their business strategy with healthy, sustainable work environments that reduce their carbon footprint and enhance worker productivity. Some of the features include high-end finishes, private offices with full height glass fronts, wood and stone feature walls, stone reception desks, decorative accent lighting and depending on their size, pantries with stone countertops and appliances.

The BOMA 360 Council designation requires renewal every three (3) years and that the owner/managers demonstrate annual participation in BOMA's Experience Exchange Report (EER®) and annual benchmarking through ENERGY STAR's® Portfolio Manager and data shared with BOMA.
