Johns Manville (JM), a Berkshire Hathaway firm specializing in energy-efficient building materials, has opened its new commercial roofing systems manufacturing facility at Milan, Ohio.
The opening ceremony was attended by the company’s national and regional customers. The production plant will make roofing products using Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM).
Todd Raba, CEO, President and Chairman of JM, said that the company set up the new manufacturing facility, which is one of the 40 JM’s manufacturing facilities around the world, in order to satisfy its customers. The new EPDM plant with world-class standards is a state-of-the-art facility and the company is glad to display it. This manufacturing facility is JM’s third manufacturing unit in Ohio, and provides roofing systems solutions to complement the company’s insulation systems and engineered products operations, which have manufacturing units in Defiance and Waterville at Ohio, respectively.
The General Manager and Vice president of JM’s Roofing Systems business, Bob Wamboldt said that this is the right time for making investment to improve the company’s product portfolio. JM now offers a wide range of roofing products. With an investment of more than $125 million in commercial roofing business since the last five years, the company is progressing to meet its customer needs. JM has significant resources to mark its commitment towards the single ply business and to guarantee a strong future for its customers in the commercial roofing industry.
EPDM, a single-ply roofing membrane made of thermoset synthetic rubber, is durable, easy to install and has better weathering characteristics. Nearly 80% of the EPDM market is situated in the Northeast and Midwest. JM selected a place close to its majority of customers to ensure efficient product delivery. The new facility, which is the second Roofing Systems facility of JM, has a manufacturing capacity of nearly 100 million sq. ft.
