Suffolk Construction has been awarded the contract for the Elementary School Modernization Project at Palm Beach County. The school is likely to cover an area of 40,776sqft and will be located in South Bay, FL. All the current 314 student stations will be modernised.
As per the project, building that were built earlier than 1951 will be demolished and extensive site de-mucking will be carried out before commencing new construction. The project has been designed in association with Song+Associates and is likely to be completed by 2014 before the start of the school year. The new building will feature efficient roofing and building envelop systems, mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems which will meet the standards of LEED certification laid down by USGBC. Suffolk Construction is providing a detailed analysis of the costs involved to achieve LEED Platinum certification. The company is also employing virtual modelling systems in collaboration with the design team to determine the timeline under which the new construction will be completed and the value that will be added to the school. Towards this end the company has partnered with 2 SBW and Cooper Construction.
According to Dago Diaz, VP of the Education Group of Suffolk Construction, the main focus of the company in taking up this project is to provide local job opportunities to the community and ensuring that the workers acquire high quality skills in the process of construction which will help in setting up of other high quality facilities in Palm Beach County.
