A new study conducted by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has established that using reflectivity in a roof can have a great impact on the radiation of heat into buildings.
This result has confirmed the stand of Gulf Coast Supply, which has been emphasising on the usage of reflective roofs to achieve substantial energy savings. According to the study, during the hottest day in the summer of 2011 in New York, a white roof was cooler than regular black roofs by 42°F.
Though the concept of reflectivity is not new, the study conducted by Stuart Gaffin puts the importance of the usage of reflectivity in a broader perspective. However, homeowners can make use of reflective foil insulation as an effective alternative. While most insulating materials focus on reducing the flow of heat into the building, reflective foil insulation reflects 97% of the heat away from its surface. This technology can help in cutting energy costs to a great extent, particularly in the usage of air-conditioning. This can also act as effective shading in non-air conditioned houses, porches, garages and other utility buildings.
Gulf Coast Supply specialises in manufacturing metal roofing and related components to contractors and homeowners across the Southeast. Its products are available at its current facility in Horseshoe Beach and two new facilities in Alachua and Stuart.
