Renaissance Arlington Capital View has announced that it has received LEED Gold certification from the US Green Building Council. The certification has been verified by the Green Building Certification Institute.
Renaissance Arlington Capital View, owned by JBG Companies and managed by Marriott International, was inaugurated during March 2011. The hotel shares its LEED Gold certification with the Residence Inn Arlington Capital View, which is located adjacent.
Features that led to the certification included optimisation of energy performance, storage and collection of recyclable materials, guest bike program, monitoring of carbon dioxide on-site, usage of energy efficient glass, chlorine-free refrigerant for ozone protection, improving air quality by making the premises 100% smoke-free, usage of recycled material for 26% of the building, energy efficient lighting, materials with low emissions, and reducing water usage by 50%. LEED certification was kept in mind even during the design of the building.
According to the President and CEO of US Green Building Council, Rick Fedrizzi, the pressure kept by the institution has forced the industry to achieve LEED certification at a faster pace. He also added that the certification provided to the hotel is an example of how this can be achieved within a short period of time.
Renaissance Arlington Capital View is part of Marriott International’s portfolio of 90 properties that have been registered for certification or have already been certified by LEED. The company is already implementing the Spirit To Preserve strategy for environment conservation which aims at turning it supply chain green. This program is also aimed at reducing water consumption by 20% by the year 2020.
