US-based Fluor has signed a Front-End-Engineering and Design (FEED) contract with Malaysian company Petronas Gas, a subsidiary of the Petronas Group for a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) regasification terminal in Malaysia.
Fluor will make use of various subcontractors and suppliers for the project whose value has not been disclosed. The new regasification terminal will supply gas to a 300MW combined cycle power plant which is located next to it in Lahad Datu, Sabah. Both companies entered into the contract during the first quarter of 2012.
According to the Senior VP of Energy and Chemicals Business for Fluor Ken Choudhary the LNG terminal will help in the development of the economy and industry by fulfilling the power generation needs of the region. Fluor has other such projects in oil refining industry and LNG regasification business in Malaysia. The company has already been part of a joint venture with Petronas under which it provided engineering services for a new LNG liquefaction plant at Bintulu, Malaysia. Fluor is headquartered in Irving, Texas and provides various services such as engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning, operations, maintenance and project management to its customers through its offices located across six continents.
