OKI Supports Dining Hall and Kitchen Construction Project for Japanese School

OKI and nine other subsidiaries of the Group have provided support to a dining hall and kitchen construction project for the Yuezhuang Primary School situated in Shanxi Province.

A formal ceremony to mark the completion of these facilities was held on March 27, 2012. The OKI Group has contributed and supported three such school construction projects in China till now.

The main focus behind the project that was organised by Plan Japan is to facilitate a safe and a hygienic environment for the school by the construction of a proper dining hall, kitchen and lavatory. The management committee of the school was part of the project in all its phases starting from planning, execution, process management and evaluation. The surrounding community also participated actively in the project which included nutritional education for teachers, students and parents. Around 268 students from seven adjacent villages are currently enrolled in the school. The Yuezhang Primary School is the only school in the area, as a result of closure and consolidation of all the other schools in the locality.

The President of OKI Electric Industry Ishibashi addressed the staff and students of the school during the inaugural ceremony. OKI’s support to such projects is part of its systematic efforts to improving its social responsibilities as a result of its commitment to the United Nations Global Compact to ensure responsive and responsible company management.
