The Fox Point Supportive housing project, which provides 48 affordable housing units, to people who have been homeless and low income individuals has received LEED Gold certification for its effective usage of energy and other resources.
The project has been funded by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York and the Department of Housing Preservation and Development and has been designed and constructed by OCV Architects.
The main features that resulted in the LEED Gold Certification were the usage of free space to accommodate green roofs and a vegetable yard, usage of solar shading, high efficiency glazing, thermal envelope and usage of energy star appliances. The materials used by the project include recycled, regional and immediately usable including materials such as wood from forests certified by FSC. The building also uses low VOC materials and also a direct view point to the exteriors outside. The building also achieved all of the five Innovation in Design credit points out of which four were for sustainable sites. OCV Architects were the LEED consultant for the project and provided the documentation for green design and construction. OCV is a member of the US Green Building Council and provides a range of services including affordable housing, gut rehabs and historic preservation.
