Tournesol Siteworks Uses Urban Hardwood for Commercial Site Furnishings

California based Tournesol Siteworks is using a novel lumber Boulevard hard wood for commercial site furnishings. Commercial grade woods and exotic woods from rainforests, which come from South East Asia and South America, face the problem of deforestation and cause issues in environment conservation.

Though they offer greater durability, they cause other issues to the environment. To solve this challenge, the company is using urban upcycled hardwood instead of the traditional lumber. For this purpose, the company uses domestically cut trees that can be dumped in a landfill. They heat treat this wood in a special kiln to create a 25 year wood, which has the same qualities as a regular lumber would.

According to a study carried out by Dovetail Partners in Minneapolis, the process of using felled trees and using them to create solid wood products has the potential to sequester 124 million tonnes of carbon over the next 30 years. However, local hardwoods cannot withstand the intense usage of customers. This problem is solved by using the thermal heating process, which changes the cell structure of the wood to give it an aging of 120-150 years. This process also darkens the wood, reduces the moisture content and provides a more durable and stable wood. This method can be used across all cities wherein the felled trees of the location can be used to provide commercial site furnishings to the very same location. The company also plans to enhance its reach and the usage of the Boulevard range of hardwood solution to wood tiles and decking as well.
