The Governments of Canada and Manitoba declared a combined contract, worth $2.03M for an upcoming economic co-op housing development. Brandon’s senior residents will benefit from the 34 unit- service facility.
At the inaugural event, declarations were made by several eminent personages including Merv Tweed, MP for Brandon-Souris and Drew Caldwell, MLA for Brandon East. Both the announcements were made on behalf of Diane Finley, Minister of HR and Skills Development Canada and Canada Mortgage and Housing (CMHC) and Kerri Irvin-Ross, Manitoba Minister of Housing and Community Development, respectively.
This four storey building will be located at 620 McDiarmid Drive in Brandon. It includes 20 two-bedroom and 14 one-bedroom units. The Western Manitoba Seniors Non-Profit Housing Co-operative developed this new Housing Co-Op. Among the 34 units, six units will be given for lease, after receiving the grants offered by the province. The estimation cost for the entire project amounts to $5.8 M. Among all the declarations of Manitoba projects, the Western Manitoba Seniors Non-Profit Housing Co-Operative initiative tops the list.
The CMHC facilitates the Government of Canada to invest over $2 B in housing this year, wherein $1.7 B will be granted for the maintenance of 615,000 households in social housing. These investments promote improving the quality of living for the underprivileged Canadians and the residents of existing social housing. It will also benefit the destitute, downtrodden, physically or mentally challenged individuals, seniors, recent immigrants from abroad and Aboriginals.
