Skanska has received a contract to construct a railway extension that spans from Neuquén province to the Port of Bahía Blanca in the Buenos Aires province in Argentina. The contract will be carried out as part of a joint venture with companies in the area, Milicic and Chediack.
The total contract amount is ARS 570 M, which is around SEK 917 M, from which the share belonging to Skanska is 33.4 %, which comes to ARS190 M, approximately SEK 300 M. Potasio Río Colorado S.A.is the client, which is a local subsidiary of Vale, a mining company based in Brazil with operations spread across 38 countries.
Civil works such as drainage, embankment and pavement will be done by Skanska on a 83 km extension of the railway, which also includes 29 bridges.
The project will commence in February 2012 and will reach completion by Q1 of 2014. Once the project is in full flow nearly 600 workers will be a part of the project.
