Skanska Enters Design-Build Contract for BART System Extension

Skanska has entered into a design-build contract with Herzog Contracting and Shimmick Construction to construct an extension of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system spanning 16 km. Skanska’s share in the contract is 45%, which is USD 347 M, approximately SEK 2.2 billion. Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is the customer.

The project will enable extension of the heavy rail rapid transit system to California-based San Jose, California. Two stations are a part of the extension, two above-grade and six at-grade crossings. The alignment of the project starts from Fremont-based Warm Springs Station to the City of San Jose. Work will begin in February 2012 and will be done by the spring of 2016.
