From 24th to 31st August, the public will have the chance to visit a fascinating exhibition telling the story of the Turning Torso building.
The exhibition, staged by HSB Turning Torso, covers every stage of the project from a variety of viewpoints and includes a virtual elevator ride to the 54th floor. The spectacular exhibition will be located at HSB Magasin Västra Hamnen, immediately north of HSB Turning Torso, with free admission for all. The exhibition celebrates both the 80-year anniversary of HSB Malmö and the landmark HSB Turning Torso project.
Each “room” within the exhibition will be manned by a guide who, with the aid of still photographs, three-dimensional models, slide shows, films and artworks, will provide visitors with an easy-to-follow presentation of the building’s architecture, interior and technical features – not to mention its tremendous height. One of the exhibition rooms, entitled “Art and Architecture”, will show how the building evolved through sketches and watercolours. On show too will be the Calatrava sculpture that inspired the building’s design.
The exhibition will also illustrate the history of housing, showing the housing shortage of the 1920’s and typical home comforts of the 40’s and 50’s. The “Technology and Construction” room invites visitors to enter a virtual elevator for a 38-second ride to the 54th and top floor of HSB Turning Torso. The exhibition will be a superb opportunity for the public to experience the unparalleled view from HSB Turning Torso while learning about the building’s evolution and the development of housing in the 20th century.
