Honda Aircraft Selects Greensboro for HondaJet MRO Facility

The Honda Aircraft Company has selected Greensboro, North Carolina for building its new HondaJet Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility. The facility is an expansion of its World Headquarters campus spanning 500,000 sq ft on 80 acres. It will provide a variety of services including extensive overhaul work and repair and other heavy maintenance services.

Honda Aircraft intends to invest $20 million, additionally, for the construction of this MRO facility. Bev Perdue, Governor of North Carolina, and officials belonging to the Piedmont Triad region announced Honda Aircraft’s new expansion in Greensboro, while the company made the announcement at the largest business aviation annual event in the world, the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Convention, in Las Vegas.

The Greensboro Economic Development Alliance President, Dan Lynch, stated that the decision of Honda Aircraft to create 419 more jobs and an $80 million in additional investment demonstrated the company’s commitment to the State of North Carolina, and also validated the strength of the Piedmont Triad aviation cluster.

Kay Hagan, U.S. Senator for North Carolina, expressed her delight at the creation of over 400 high-paying jobs for Greensboro.

Honda Aircraft’s headquarter buildings, and manufacturing and R&D buildings are situated on its World Headquarters campus. The company has leased an additional 54 acres at the Greensboro Piedmont Triad Airport, which increases its total lease to 130 acres. The MRO facility’s design is expected to be finalized in 2012 first quarter and would be followed by construction. The facility is expected to be ready for occupation in mid-2013 and will support the company’s entry into service and certification.
