Health Care REIT, declared that its Toledo corporate campus has been awarded the LEED Platinum certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), marking its sustainability and energy efficiency.
The design features that enabled the building to receive Green Platinum certification include an all inclusive recycling program, solar thermal panels, real time energy metering, automated building controls, usage of FSC certified wood, thermal storage facility, retention fond, solar facility and utilization of natural lighting.
The other energy efficient features incorporated at the headquarters of Health Care REIT include energy efficient lighting to cut down 32% of energy intake, water saving features to reduce water usage by 40%, and 100% reduction from the usage of potable water for plant watering. Nearly 84% of the building space receives natural light and the building meets nearly 20% of its power from renewable solar PV power. During the construction process, it saved over 78% of construction wastes from being sent to the landfills.
Health Care REIT has also declared the introduction of a new tenant program known as Green Arrow Energy Management Program, which rewards the eco-friendly business operations of the tenants and clients at the facilities owned by it. The program designed to encourage energy saving green practices will be implemented and managed by the property management group of the company.
