Addison Airport has announced the completion of a main runway reconstruction project, in addition to the enhanced and upgraded approach and airport grading, lighting and drainage all along the 7,200 ft runway of the airport. The runway got a new asphalt layer and the sections of the runway were constructed again from the base.
Jan Collmer, an acrobatic pilot, will do the honors by cutting a ribbon that is tied across the runway with his vibrantly painted Extra 300 aircraft.
The Mayor of Addison Airport has stated that the company gives around $600 million per annum to the local economy and offers employment for over 3,000 people. Addison desires the airport to be the universal choice for pilots regionally and all through the country.
The airport work comprised new paint for 181 mi, 123 truckloads of asphalt, electrical cable for 22 mi and adequate grass to enclose 35 proficient football fields.
The airport improvement program of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) funded 90% of this project by means of a block contribution to the TX-DOT Aviation Division and the airport offered 10% of the budget of $11.6 million. .
This project needed a cautiously organized effort as the airport was unlocked throughout most of the construction. It required the contractors to have the experience of working on airports and a safety zone of 1,000 ft was formed between the construction equipment and aircraft.
Joel Jenkinson, director of Addison Airport, has commented that this kind of runway is necessary to maintain the competitive lead of the airport. The clients will discover a greatly advanced aviation facility, which will take advantage of the improving economy.
