Consortium Led by AECOM Gets Railway Contract in Australia

AECOM Technology, a company that offers professional, technical and administrative support services for the commercial and government clients all over the globe, declared that a consortium lead by it has been contracted by the Government of New South Wales to provide the needed design for the North West Rail Link in Sydney, Australia.

The other members of the consortium include Cox Architects, Grimshaw Architects and Parsons Brinckerhoff.

The project requires placing of a new rail service line for a distance of 14 mi in the CityRail network. The new line will connect Epping to Rouse Hill in North West Sydney by adding six new stations and will connect the railway facility with over 300 stations of CityRail. The construction includes building of a number of tunnels for a length of 9 mi between Epping and Kellyville and it will become the longest railway tunnel ever built in Sydney.

The new railway line proposed for a distance of 14 mi will extend direct rail services to around 300,000 residents in the North West Area by providing them direct access to places such as Central Business District, North Sydney, St. Leonards, Chatswood, Macquarie Park and Epping and bring down the congestion in the route.

Under the terms of the accord, AECOM will remain the lead technical advisor for the project and will remain responsible for the architecture, rail systems and engineering of the project. The company will assist in the various tender assessment processes, documentation of contract, preparing the reference design, approval of the design concept, system assurance, and will deliver design definition, project definition and will complete the planning delivery.
