Over 33 per cent of self-builders don’t cost, or do not plan to cost, their build project.

This is just one of the findings in a revealing survey of self-builders by HBXL, the company behind EstimatorXpress, an estimating software package for self-builders. When asked about the most important element of a self-build, 54 per cent of respondents felt that the location was the most important factor, while 21 per cent felt that having a sensible budget was most important. As for research, 91 per cent of entrants found magazines such as Build It to be the most useful resource for helping start a project.
