Energy-Efficient Building Retrofits: Two Quebec Companies To Rreceive Financial Incentives

Two commercial building owners are being rewarded for the strides they have taken to make their buildings more energy-efficient.

Today, the Honourable Lucienne Robillard, President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada, Minister for Intergovernmental Affairs and Member of Parliament for Westmount Ville-Marie, announced that the companies have been approved to receive funding from Natural Resources Canada's (NRCan) Energy Innovators Initiative (EII) for building retrofit planning. Aménagement Westcliff Ltée and St-Jacques Nova Scotia Company will receive incentives on the costs incurred in energy audits performed on their buildings to increase energy efficiency.

"The Government of Canada and these local organizations are pooling our efforts to make a difference in addressing climate change," explained Minister Robillard. "Organizations that increase energy efficiency in their buildings help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save money at the same time."

The EII funding amount totals approximately $50,000, which accounts for up to 50 percent of the total project cost. The EII helps increase energy efficiency in existing commercial and institutional buildings and offers Energy Retrofit Assistance funding for the planning of energy retrofits. Since 2001, more than 600 planning projects have received funding and are expected to result in retrofits that will reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

For more details on the EII, a program within NRCan's Office of Energy Efficiency, visit the Web site at www.oee.nrcan.gc.ca/eii. The Government of Canada's approach to climate change is focused on making the right choices for Canada.

This will ensure that the actions taken contribute to the long-term goals of building a sustainable economy for the 21st century, a healthier environment and strong communities, while affirming Canada's place in the world.
