Environmentally Friendly Polymers Made From Wood

Research led by Ann-Christine Albertsson, from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has shown that wood could be used to replace oil as a raw material for new polymers.

The environmentally sustainable technology uses hemicellulose-based hydrogels to replace the petroleum components of polymers. These hydrogels can be produced from by-products of the wood pulp industry and fermented agricultural products such as rapeseed oil.
