Jacobs Engineering Group, a diverse provider of professional, technical, and construction services, has received an engineering, construction and procurement services contract from the North West Redwater Partnership for a new oil refinery to be developed in Alberta, Canada.
The oil refinery at North West Redwater is projected to treat and also sell bitumen. The Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission (APMC) representing the Crown would supply bitumen to the refinery according to the Bitumen Royalty in Kind (BRIK) policy. The policy is a partnership of the oil refinery with the Alberta Province and would aid in the development of the province’s oil sands. The project is a progress towards development of sustainable oil sands and the refinery will not rely on natural gas. It would use the carbon capture technology instead.
A combined team of individuals from Jacobs and North West Redwater will be in charge of the project development and coordination for organization of the project delivery. Jacobs is to provide owner's engineer services for the development of the refinery till the operations sustain during the project development.
Chip Mitchell, Vice President of Jacobs Group, announced that the participation of the company in the oil refinery project reflected its commitment towards enhancing the sustainability of oil sands in the Province of Alberta.
