Nu-Tech Systems declared that its Valley Business Center has received the ENERGY STAR certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The certification signifies that the building is ranked among the top 25% of the constructions with similar facilities all over the nation. The Business Center is the only recipient of the ENERGY STAR rating under un-refrigerated warehouse type in Colorado Springs and one among the three facilities to get such certification in Colorado.
The 13,000 ft² building has six individual units that are utilized for general warehousing and distribution purposes. The tenants occupying the units include Atlantic Heating, a heating and air-conditioning contracting company and Empire Staple, a company engaged in distribution of materials related to construction. Nu-Tech Systems incorporated energy saving and cost-effective betterments to its buildings to improve the energy performance of the buildings. As an ENERGY STAR rated building it will consume around 35% less energy than other buildings of similar type and will also discharge 35% less carbon dioxide into the environment.
According to Scott Crawford, Nu-Tech Systems’ President, to achieve energy efficient and strong structure that assists in noise reduction the company opted for Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF’s) in the boundary walls during the construction stage. The ICF’s when packed with concrete results in a strong, green structure that conserves energy.
