Irvine, a real estate company functioning since 1864, has declared that among all the ENERGY STAR certified building areas of 2010, its portfolio of office buildings ranked within the top ten at the national level and secured second position in the State of California.
ENERGY STAR certification received by a building indicates that the energy performance of the building is rated among the top 25% percent of the buildings with similar level of facilities at the national level and conforms to the levels set by the EPA. The buildings certified with ENERGY STAR rating from EPA will have higher level of occupancy rates, the operational costs will come down by 50 cents per every square foot of operation and above all the building will consume 30% less energy than the normal buildings.
The ranking based on EPA registry of ENERGY STAR certified buildings indicates that 54 of Irvine’s 93 office buildings measuring around 16.6 million gross square feet (Msf) obtained ENERGY STAR ratings for 2010. If the rating is worked on square footage it can be equated to roughly 90% of the high-rise office building portfolio of the company, which includes related low and mid-rise properties.
In total, the 54 ENERGY STAR rated buildings of the company received an average rating score of 83. ENERGY STAR rating is given to those buildings that score 75 or more on the 1-100 scale of EPA. The numerical score mentioned conveys the percentile rank of the building amongst all the buildings that took part in the nationwide program.
Among the large property owners, Irvine Company is uniquely rated because it possesses all the ENERGY STAR rated buildings under its portfolio.
