KEMET, a global provider of through-hole and surface mount capacitor technologies, has planned to build a new manufacturing facility in Skopje, Macedonia. The company manufactures capacitors of various types such as ceramic, tantalum, aluminum, film, and paper and electrolytic capacitors.
The total investment by KEMET for the facility is approximately €12 million. This includes the assets transferred by the company for this expansion. The manufacturing facility would employ around 200 people when it reaches its fully operational status. The administrative office space and the manufacturing space together would cover a total area of 10,000 m2. KEMET expects to complete construction of the facility in the summer of 2012. The company has included the construction cost of the facility in the capital plan for the fiscal year, which had been announced earlier.
The Chief Executive Officer of KEMET, Per Loof, stated that the new manufacturing facility is a part of the company’s long-term strategy for maintaining and consolidating its manufacturing capabilities for its customers in Europe. He added that it would also help decrease the cost structure linked to its electrolytic and film business.
KEMET plans to manufacture standard DC film capacitors initially. These capacitors find applications in industrial, automotive and alternative energy industries.
