The Hunters Point Shipyard Candlestick Point redevelopment project of Lennar Urban in the south sector of San Francisco has received the Gold Nugget Grand Award during the Pacific Coast Builders Conference held in San Francisco.
The award recognizes the unique and inventive accomplishments in land use planning and architectural design for industrial, commercial and residential projects. The land planning for the project was completed by RHAA and IBI Group.
The redevelopment project has obtained the prize under the best ‘on the boards’ site plan category contending against international and U.S. submissions. Over 400 projects under 50 diverse categories have participated in the competition.
In honoring the project, the judges pointed out, that the San Francisco project planned over 777 acres of area aims to draw the interests of the young professionals who are employed in around 12,000 mixed units. It has a mix of workforce, public and low-priced housing units, hotel and cultural venues, retail and R&D. The proposed mini-city will have reclaimed water facility for effective use of water and ready to use roof top solar installations generating green energy. It will also include separate walking and cycling tracks to connect the retail stores, parks, schools and neighborhoods.
The project when completed will have around 10,500 housing units either for rent or sale, retail facility of 885,000 .ft2, green offices in around 2,650,000 .ft2 area in addition to areas earmarked for research and development and science and technology. It will also boast a 300-slip marina, 10,000-seat public performance or arena facility and a 150,000 .ft2 hotel.
