Dollar General, a company that operates around 511 stores in the state of Alabama, including 32 stores in Jefferson County, declared that it has broken the ground to commence the construction of its 10th distribution facility in Bessemer, Alabama.
The other distribution centers of the company are located in Indiana, South Carolina, Ohio, Florida, Missouri, Mississippi, Virginia, Oklahoma and Kentucky.
The new distribution facility, constructed with an investment of $100 million, will be built over 100 acres of land located 4101 Lakeshore Parkway. The construction of the distribution center, measuring over 1 million ft2 area, is expected to get completed and ready for operation in early part of 2012.
The new facility, which is expected to employ around 650 people, will include all the latest building features and support over 1,000 stores in the Southeast and all over Alabama. It will also provide more jobs in the area.
During the commemorative work of the new distribution center a total amount of $10,000 was donated to a number of schools and to the Bessemer Public Library jointly by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, Clayco, general contractor and Leo A. Daly the architect.
