The Tallahassee Memorial Cancer Center, a building developed and possessed by Health Care REIT has been granted LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
The two story cancer center building occupies over 50,000 square foot area and is located over a five-acre land site.
The Cancer Center in its pursuit to achieve LEED certification has incorporated a range of energy efficient features. The low-flow water fixtures installed in the building saves around 40% of water used in the building. The water conserving and harvesting facilities included in the building saves over 50% of drinking water used for landscaping facilities. The energy saving installations incorporated in the building allows the construction to achieving around 20% savings on its energy usage. During the construction process, the building utilized over 25% of recycled building materials.
According to George L. Chapman, Health Care REIT’s Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President, the energy management program installed at the building is organized as a part of the company’s business strategy to offer positive values to the tenants of the building, health systems, users and the shareholders of the company.
Health Care REIT is presently trying to achieve LEED certification for a number of its projects currently undergoing constructions, which includes the corporate headquarters of the company located in Toledo, Ohio.
