Ten Fifty B, a construction project located in downtown San Diego and developed by Affirmed Housing, has received LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for implementing energy efficient features.
The green energy installations and energy saving features that enabled LEED gold certification for the building include use of recycled water for watering landscape, erection of white roofing to minimize the heat island effect inside the building, installation of energy saving light fixtures and other appliances and rooftop solar installation for power generation in the building. The elevators installed in the building are designed with an energy regeneration feature. The windows are designed to cut down the solar effects to maintain the building cool inside.
The building incorporates cork floor, bamboo roof and the tiles of recycled glass, which can be recycled again at the end of their usage period. The lobby products are either produced from recyclable and renewable resources or produced from post and pre-consumer recycled resources. During the construction process, Affirmed Housing used 10% of the recycled materials and bought nearly 20% of the materials from local sources.
