Affirmed Housing Group has declared that it will observe the opening of its Riverwalk Apartments in July. The observance is anticipated to have participation by special invitees, city council members, business leaders along with the James Silverwood, Affirmed Housing Group’s President. The project is anticipated to revive the environment in an ecologically susceptible area.
The Riverwalk Apartments located in South San Diego on opposite banks of Nestor Creek consists of 50 units, which includes 21 three-bedroom, 10 two-bedroom and 19 single-bedroom homes in a cluster of five buildings. The apartments include number of community facilities such as a computer lab, a community room, an onsite laundry, barbeque areas and a tot lot.
The eco-friendly Riverwalk apartment is anticipated to restore the Nestor Creek, which was filled with trash and remained an eyesore. Now the creek has been cleaned and re-planted with local vegetation and used as an open space/walking trail for the community. The other green initiatives implemented in the apartments include energy saving appliances, solar facility to heat the water used for laundry, bio-filtering facility at rainwater overflow, bigger sized windows to cut down the lighting needs, cross ventilation design to do away with mechanical cooling and a landscaping that uses drought withstanding plants.
Affirmed Housing Group has developed the apartments in association with the San Diego Housing Commission. Studio E Architects has provided the needed design for the apartments while Darsono Design, a landscape architect provided the needed landscaping design. Allgire General Contractors has completed the construction of the building.
