SAGE Electrochromics, a developer of dynamic window glass, a product that changes the tint of the glass, to improve day-lighting within the building, has contracted accords with a number of equipment retailers to install key technologies that will improve the production process of its new plant.
The company is trying to get LEED silver certification for its new plant to be located in Faribault, Minnesota placed 40 miles south of Minneapolis.
The new plant will incorporate a thin-filming coating system provided by Leybold Optics, a Germany-based company for glass production. The 500 feet long coating line will incorporate a new type of twin-sputter deposition system. Sage has also opted to utilize the know-how from Manz Automation that is normally utilized in the manufacture of thin-film solar PV modules. Manz in addition to installing products such as laser cutting and laser structuring will also install an LCD-grade chemical cleaning system to provide SAGE highly accurate glass substrates and coatings.
For the purpose of automating and increasing the production of SageGlass, Lisec America, a division of LISEC group, will supply a range of glass fabrication technologies, which includes frame benders, glass loaders, sealers, grinders, cutters and software to supervise the production process.
The new production facility of the company is anticipated to commence production at the end of 2012. The construction will provide 200 construction jobs and 160 green collar jobs to the state.
