The Chandler, Ariz, located Chandler City Hall, designed by SmithGroup has attained the construction completion stage.
The 137,700 square-foot hall completed at a cost of $47 million and placed at South Arizona Avenue and Chicago Street will house all the service departments that are currently located in various parts of the city in one place thus affording a permanent office for its employees who were operating from rented buildings for around 12 years.
The new building will house a public television studio, administrative offices, an art gallery, council of chambers and public lobbies. The project will also include 330 parking facility in addition to improvements in the surrounding site. The pedestrian-friendly complex is located close to most of the normally visited departments such as the community services, neighborhood resources, utilities and the city clerk. A kinetic façade erected at the building is designed to move with the wind while providing shade to the building from the scorching desert sun. The project was completed during the fall of 2010.
SmithGroup used its workplace studio located at its Phoenix, Arizona office to design the project. Sundt Construction worked as the Construction Manager at Risk. The building project is expected to get the U.S. Green Building Council offered LEED Gold certification.
