BRE has been approved by ABBE, the Awarding Body for the Built Environment, as an assessment centre for the ABBE Diploma in Home Inspection.
The Diploma is the essential qualification for home inspectors to be licensed to operate. They will need to pass the Diploma in Home Inspection and have their knowledge and understanding assessed by an approved Assessment Centre. Home inspectors are the key to the Government's plans to introduce Home Information Packs, which will be needed by all houses placed on the market in England and Wales for sale from January 2007.
'BRE is well known for its publications, training, advice, consultancy and research in the built environment,' says Guy Hammersley, BRE's Chief Operating Officer. 'As the UK's leading centre of excellence in housing, BRE is uniquely placed to bring the wealth of knowledge and expertise needed to support the home inspector programme'.
BRE's assessment centre has been developed with the assistance of Cambridge Regional College. To further support home inspectors, BRE is offering a range of specialist training, publications and technical support services. Anyone with a sound knowledge of building construction and pathology, and has preferably been involved in residential inspections, can be taken through the assessment process, helped to compile a portfolio of evidence and given guidance on taking the external test in order to achieve the qualification. BRE is also very interested in hearing from qualified assessors who can help it meet the very substantial demand expected for this vocational qualification.
