Grand Canyon University to Invest in Campus Improvement Projects

Grand Canyon University (GCU), a private University in Arizona, is in the process of renovating its campus facilities and improving the aesthetics of the area on Camelback Road.

The university has commenced the construction of the projects and has invested over $200 million. The development and demand for the university’s programs necessitated an additional investment of $150 million towards the building projects, which are planned during 2013.

During the past one year, GCU has constructed a student recreation center, a residence hall, classroom building and College of Education. It also constructed an arena with 5,000-seat capacity to host conferences, events, musical concerts and basketball programs. The arena is expected to be opened in the fall of 2011.

The other facilities that are under progress include a five-level dormitory facility to house an additional 500 students. The new accommodation will have suites measuring 650 and 720 Sq. ft. Two bathrooms will be included in each suite. The dormitory, slated to be completed in July 2011, can accommodate over 1,800 students. A new fast food service facility measuring 14,000 square foot will provide more dining choices for students with adequate indoor/outdoor seating and a bowling alley. The fast food facility, which is expected to get completed in fall 2011, will be managed by a food service company, Sodexco.  The building will also have additional parking facilities on east and north sides and completion will get over by the fall of 2011 and additional parking facility will be commissioned in the fall of 2012. A classroom building to house health sciences and nursing faculties, labs and classes is expected to get finished by the fall of 2012.

To meet the growing requirements for sports, the university has planned to expand its soccer field and will install an extra outdoor track to sustain the field and track program. It also plans to make improvements to support the grand NCAA competitive sports programs of the school.
