Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates and Gilbane have been chosen to work with Steel Orca to design and construct a data center measuring 300,000-square-foot in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The data center will use renewable energy sources such as geothermal, fuel cells, solar, wind and gas to power its operations.
Some of the important features to be incorporated in the project include Air-Side Economizers – Free cooling with yearly temperatures of 60.2°C, hydro-cooling by utilizing the Delaware River as a heat source and server side cooling. The hot-isle heat containment will help achieve maximum cooling efficiency by enfolding the hot-isle and seizing the exhaust heat for reuse or excavation. The modular scalable data center will utilize data center cells for density power demands, level needs and energy sources. The efficient design and floor layout plan will adjust hot and cold gangways and define the rack and cage usage. The data center will be designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification, making the center to become one of the highest performing facilities in the world.
The preconstruction procedures for the proposed building have already started. Construction is expected to commence in the fall of 2011 and overall completion is anticipated in 2013.
