Humana, a Louisville, Ky, headquartered company, declared that its headquarters has received the ENERGY STAR certification awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of U.S.
The certification denotes that the building has superior energy performance attributes to improve the environmental standards. The ENERGY STAR rating has set Humana’s headquarters on par with the nations top 25% of buildings equipped with comparable facilities
In order to further showcase its commitment to ecological improvement, Humana will be taking part in the Climate Corps Program initiated by the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) for the first time. It also has plans to grant fellowship to an EDF graduate to discover more energy-efficiency possibilities in its data centers. Other initiatives of the company include providing support to bike-sharing activities among the communities, carbon disclosure projects, and in building more LEED certified and ENERGY STAR facilities. In addition, it enlists and encourages its employees to participate in activities that demonstrate the concept of ecological leadership.
In accordance to the certification of EPA, the ENERGY STAR initiatives incorporated at the building will limit greenhouse gases being emitted from nearly 1.3 million houses annually. The company will also save over $1.9 billion, which otherwise would have been spent on its energy consumption.
