Flatiron, Bridges to Prosperity Partner to Construct Footbridges

Flatiron, an auxiliary of HOCHTIEF, and Bridges to Prosperity have signed a five year strategic partnership for the purpose of building around a dozen footbridges all over the world to limit poverty among people due to isolated living.

Flatiron, in association with Bridges to Prosperity will construct footbridges for the benefit of communities living in isolated places by giving them access to available education, health care and economic growth opportunities. The partnership will utilize novel and easy-to-replicate technologies to construct bridges for linking impossible locations and dangerous river crossings. The bridges are to be constructed under demanding conditions with restricted reach to electricity, equipment, and tools and require inventive skills to complete the task. The employees from Flatiron will work closely with the local communities, sharing their ideas and expertise, while assisting Bridges to Prosperity to design and construct easy-to-reproduce suspension bridges.

Both the companies were engaged in the partnership from the beginning of spring 2010 and completed construction of four bridges measuring 135 to 196 feet.
