ATCO Structures & Logistics, a global provider of modular buildings and support solutions, has received a contract to construct a workforce housing facility that can accommodate 1,500 individuals.
Bechtel has awarded this accommodation facility design and construction contract to ATCO, as a part of Kitimat Modernization Project (KMP) Construction Village. Rio Tinto Alcan has selected Bechtel to manage this major project that will offer accommodation and facilities to Rio Tinto Alcan's workers in Kitimat, British Columbia.
The phase I of the Kitimat project will accommodate nearly 500 individuals and the construction will be completed in 2011. ATCO will construct the modular building units at its manufacturing facility located in Calgary. The housing units have been designed to resist heavy snow loads in Kitimat. A kitchen, dining room, gym, laundry area, recreation complex and comfortable sleeping quarters will be the features of the KMP Construction Village.
The President and COO at ATCO, Harry Wilmot, commented that the company is delighted for being selected to deliver accommodation facilities for the significant project in the Kitimat community. The company has also signed MOU with the Haisla Nation to show its commitment towards serving the local community.
