Hubbell Lighting, a producer of lighting fixtures, has of late assisted the University of Maryland to begin a clean energy initiative by substituting 12,000 of its old 3-lamp type light fixtures with 6,600 new 2-lamp type energy conserving fluorescent lights manufactured by Columbia Lighting.
The e-poc fluorescent light fixtures supplied by Columbia Lighting, was chosen for its energy efficiency by the Electrical Systems Group of the University of Maryland and its Conservation Manager Susan Corry along with the officials from Hubbell Lighting.

The e-poc lighting fixtures, supplied by Columbia Lighting, provide efficient lighting while conserving the energy usage. It is estimated that the University will save around 1,391,400 kWh of energy annually thus allowing the university to have a saving of around $153,054.00 on its energy spending every year. On accomplishing the completion of the program the university is anticipated to cut down its energy usage by 22% and save over $1.7 million a year.
The energy savings anticipated by the University is equivalent to offsetting around 4,100 tons of CO2 emissions which can be equated to planting over 20,000 tree saplings every year.
