Cooper Lighting, a unit of Cooper Industries, declared that it has assisted the Superior and Ontario Courts justice services to achieve the LEED Gold certification for their new Durham Consolidated Courthouse building.
The court, which was operating from eight separate buildings when planned to move to its new technically sophisticated courthouse in Ontario, chose Cooper Lighting to supply a range of exterior and interior lighting solutions. The new building, located in Oshawa business district, has 33 courtrooms, three motions rooms and two settlement/conference rooms to provide court and legal linked services.
The new integrated 446,000 sq. ft. courthouse has an intricate and multifarious structure with a range of lighting requirements in both the exterior and interior locations and the lighting products supplied by Cooper Lighting met the requirements efficiently. The Courthouse has installed compact fluorescent down-lights in the public areas, offices and meeting rooms. Patented Fail-Safe confinement/correctional lighting fixtures were installed in protected areas and holding cells. For the atrium, Cooper Lighting utilized its exclusively designed RSA COMBOLIGHT Galleria Series of hovering lights. Cooper's patented Corelite Stellar fluorescent luminaries were chosen for the library and the boardrooms in order to provide a close type of lighting. This lighting incorporates an open-baffle design offering high vertical foot candles to provide adequate lighting.
To light the main passage and the courtroom Cooper utilized Metalux fluorescent lights, which includes its Ovation series and illuminated the courtroom walls with the Neo-Ray PentaFlex 79PF perimeter lighting facility. The team chose Invue Mesa Area Luminaries for the exterior lighting and provided spill light control for lighting the parking lot. The variety of lighting fixtures installed for the court building shows the ability of the company in meeting the versatile outdoor and indoor lighting requirements. The company supplies specifically designed lighting options to improve the energy efficiency and reduce the spending on energy.
